Welcome to Butterflies tiney Home Nursery! My name is Amy and I’m a former Primary School Teacher, specialising in EYFS. Butterflies is a welcoming home from home nursery where children can form a strong sense of belonging, curiosity and independence. Play is our super power and I provide a highly personalised, child-led provision that is catered to each child’s interests, needs and development stage. I live in a town house with my partner Dan and our gorgeous son, who is 2 years old. Before opening Butterflies Home Nursery, I was a Primary School Teacher. I have a BA Hons in Education Studies and PGCE in Primary Education, specialising in EYFS. While studying at University, I became a student ambassador and helped teenagers build their CV’s, apply for jobs and universities. I truly believe in the power of education especially in the earliest years of children’s lives.
Unique highlights
Experienced Primary School Teacher
I am incredibly grateful for my teaching experience. Over 6 years, the children taught me more than I could ever imagine. I will bring so many of the skills I learnt from teaching to Butterflies. From confidently providing the EYFS curriculum through play, developing a life long love of learning, creating an irresistible child-led setting, supporting children through big emotions, safe guarding, risk assessments, observing, assessing and tracking children’s development
and so much more.
I am an Anti-Racist and Inclusive Practitioner
Everyone is welcome, respected and represented at Butterflies! I carefully select books, resources and toys to represent a wide range of cultures, abilities and families. The toys are gender neutral, children are welcome to play with whatever they like!
Children’s culture
and home language are celebrated and I would love to work in partnership with parents to ensure I represent cultures correctly through stories, songs, dress ups and meal recipes.
Passionate about Early Years
I have always loved learning about and teaching the Early Years Curriculum. Since becoming a mum, I have become fascinated in child development and the science behind how babies brains develop. The first years in children’s lives are so precious and it’s a real privilege to be part of them. I have first hand experience at forming attachments, building trust, feeding, weaning, sensory play, managing big emotions, growth mindset, baby sign, developing understanding and speech. (and all the other fun that comes with being a parent).
Inspired by Several Educational Philosophies
I love to research and learn about different educational approaches. Butterflies biggest inspirations are
Montessori, Forest School and the Curiosity Approach. One of the main themes they all share is respecting the children as learners and encouraging their independence and curiosity. At Butterflies our ethos is to develop a deep respect for ourselves, others and the environment. I am committed to always extending
my professional development starting with my Forest School Training.
Spacious Nursery and Private Garden
I have dedicated the ground floor of my town house to the nursery. This includes a spacious, child-centred and open-
ended nursery with lots of natural light. An open plan and child friendly kitchen, which has a round dining table where we eat our meals together. An accessible toilet and taps, perfect for toilet training and hand washing. A sleep room with travel cots, mattresses, bedding, black out blinds and a white noise machine provided.
It also has a private garden which we play in whatever the weather. Every part of the nursery has been carefully considered and is accessible to the children.
Parks, Parks, Parks!
There is no better place to learn than surrounded by nature and Butterflies nursery is surrounded by nature. Rise Park, which is a one minute walk away has a beautiful stream, wild flower area and dog agility course! Raphael’s Park, is a 15 minute walk away and has a beautiful lake where we feed the ducks, geese and swans. It also has a nature trail and huge play area
for all ages. Bedford’s Park, which is also a 15
minute walk away, is home to wild deers who love to eat carrots! It also has an amazing play area. Playing outdoors is an essential part of developing children’s
emotional and physical development.
Nutritional Home-Cooked Meals and Snacks
Meal times are such a special part of our day. All meals and snacks are fresh, nutritional and well-balanced. I love to include children’s favourite meals and work with families to create a menu your child will love while also introducing new foods. We all sit together and socialise while we eat our meals. Children will be encouraged to help prepare food, set the table and clear away their plates to help create a sense of belonging, pride and independence.
