About my home

I have set up my tiney home nursery to be a warm, stimulating and fun learning environment where all children can thrive. My passion for early years shines through in everything I do. I have a degree in Childhood studies and over 20 years experience of working with children. I am so excited to be able to use my knowledge and experience to support children’s learning and development and to work with children on such a personal level in my very own home nursery!

Unique highlights

Expressive Arts and Design

I am very creative and love engaging children in a wide range of creative activities. In my tiney home nursery we will be doing something creative every day. Whether it be painting, collage, play-dough, sensory play, music and movement, singing, role play and imaginative play such as puppets or setting up a new role play area. I can guarantee there will always be something creative and fun going on that will really grab the children’s attention!

Literary

Having worked as a Nursery Teacher for many years I have experience teaching children early reading and writing skills in a fun and age appropriate way. Books and reading are my passion! I am a great story teller and have set up an exciting and welcoming book area in my tiney home nursery. Story time is an essential part of our day. I also make my own story props and story bags for the children to explore.

Outside Provision

As well as having a well equipped and spacious outside area for the children in my setting, I am also lucky enough to be surrounded by woodland areas for the children to explore. Within this woodland there is a musical instrument area and a beautiful walled garden to investigate. There are also three playgrounds all within walking distance to my house. We will be going outside everyday regardless of the weather so it is important that children arrive dressed appropriately for the weather and with spare clothes in their bags.

Music and singing

Research has found that when a child knows eight or more nursery rhymes by heart, at the age of 4, that they are usually one of the best at reading and spelling in their class by the age of 8! Over the past 20 plus years I have built up a huge repertoire of songs and nursery rhymes. Singing with children is one of my most favourite things to do and I can guarantee your child will be coming home with lots of new nursery rhymes and songs to share with you!

I live on Leybourne Chase, a large housing development surrounded my woodland in Leybourne, West Malling.

There are three playgrounds within walking distance to my house, a basket ball cage and football pitches, a community centre which holds toddler groups, music groups and soft play sessions. There is a shop, a primary school and a preschool all within a few minutes walk from my house. There are plenty of woodland walks nearby and just round the corner in the middle of the woods there is a lovely musical instrument area for children to explore as well as a beautiful walled garden which is perfect for bike riding and picnics.

Katherine is an absolute godsend. Being new to the area and away from family and friends to help me I needed someone reliable and experienced. She is so calm and soft spoken she immediately settles my baby and miraculously my toddler too. Nothing is a problem and she throws herself in on immediate arrival at my house and clearly is good at what she does. She's a wonderful support to me and a wealth of knowledge and great advice. And so as well as helping me with my six month old, she now babysits both children for me two evenings a week.

Katherine was my daughters childminder for two years. My daughter (Kali) loved going to Katherine’s and both my husband and I were very happy that she was there. Katherine always had engaging activities organised such as arts and crafts. Kali was always bursting to tell us what she did when she got home. Katherine would also take the children to the park after school. In the holidays they would go swimming or further afield. Kali was always well fed with good wholesome, homemade food. Katherine is not only conscious and intuitive to a child’s needs but also appreciates and understands parents. Out of the blue throughout the day I would receive lovely pictures of Kali enjoying her time which I felt was really special. I always found Katherine to be flexible and accommodating. Kali was always dropped off and picked up from school on time. It is a difficult decision when you have to go back to work and entrust the care of your child with someone else however giving a person like Katherine that responsibility eases the transition, knowing your child is in a safe, secure environment that they will really enjoy. I cannot recommend Katherine highly enough to any parents who are looking to place their child in her care.

Katherine has been childminding my daughter since she was 8 months old. She treats her just like one of her own and my daughter settled straight in. Katherine is very professional and keeps me updated with everything my daughter has been doing. She has helped introduce more solid foods to my daughter and encouraged her to try things she would never try for me! I would highly recommend her.

Katherine came to us at the recommendation of a colleague and I thank my lucky stars every day for that conversation. She is softly spoken, kind, gentle, creative, funny and wise and my baby daughter took to her with instant and obvious delight. Katherine is very experienced with children of all ages and has huge knowledge about how little people function and develop. She is genuinely interested in the steps of progress made by each individual child in her care and works hard to achieve a good balance between stimulation, creativity and quiet time/ rest in her childcare practice. I feel totally calm leaving my baby with Katherine because she cares for those in her care with enormous patience and kindness. I am happy to recommend her very highly to other parents looking for a flexible, caring and knowledgeable childminder.

We have been lucky enough to have Katherine as our childminder for the last 6 months. We are devastated that she is moving. If you live near her new address and need childcare I don’t think you will find better. I knew I was leaving my son in kind, caring hands every morning and was always greeted with a warm reception. Katherine is very attentive, she keeps you posted on any developments with your child and regularly sends you photos, this brings us peace of mind as well as a smile. With her teaching background she will provide a wide range of experiences and nurture the progress and education of your little one.

Katherine is a truly brilliant Childminder. She looked after my 2 year old and 5 year old daughters for around a year and when we moved cities I wished I could have taken her with me. My little one would spend the day with Katherine and they would visit playgroups or the park together. My daughter would often bring home cards or crafts they’d made together. She was always happy to go to Katherine in the mornings and was always tired but cheerful when I picked her up after work. Katherine would collect my eldest from school and they’d all have dinner together. My eldest would talk about the books they had read together after eating and often had a picture or two to show me. Katherine always took care to communicate what my daughters had been doing. She kept a diary of food they ate (which was always healthy), whether they had been tired, happy or felt ill. She also took photos for me of their day trips and play time. I found this incredibly reassuring and I loved reading about their day and seeing they’d been happy. It’s difficult to leave your children with someone else while you go to work but with Katherine I knew they were busy and safe. We were lucky to have her as a childminder .

Katherine has been my son's nursery teacher since September 2011. She established a very strong relationship with both me and many other parents at the nursery. I believe that made a real difference to my son's development. Katherine was always keen to share his progress with me on a daily basis as well as letting me know what we could do to help him at home. Katherine exceeded expectations at all times. I found her to be dependable, reliable, conscientious and courteous. In addition to being a wonderful teacher, it was a real comfort having her as part of the Nursery team for me and many other parents as well. She is a very nurturing and caring person and always noticed if a child needed a cuddle or that extra bit of attention. She developed a strong rapport with many of the children, including my son, and it is clear they are very fond of her. In summary, I highly recommend Katherine for any position or endeavour that she may seek to pursue in respect to her capacity to teach or care for children. I believe that she will be a valuable asset to any teaching organisation or family.
