About Lavern

I've worked with children in my own home setting for a long time now. I've seen lots of education trends come and go, but my own approach has always been rooted in carefully listening to the child's interests and using these as a starting point to expand their understanding of the world around them.

Regular weekly outings to local groups and parks

Lavern's setting is based on the ground level of a large terrace house near Canonbury.

During business hours, her living room becomes a playspace and 'activity stations' - including a book area and drawing and writing table - set up with activities that change daily. Boxes of resources are kept within children's reach and there are opportunities for them to select an activity of their choice.

Children eat their snacks and meals in the kitchen and a bedroom is designated a quiet nap area.

Lavern's kitchen opens out onto a private and secure garden space, which has a range of equipment set up, including a mud kitchen and Wendy house.

Throughout the space, Lavern displays bright and colourful posters to support children's learning, be it numbers, shapes or letters of the alphabet.

At Lavern's setting, your child will enjoy daily outdoor adventures in the morning and stimulating activities at home in the afternoons.

A typical week includes outings to regular playgroups with a network of local childminders, during which your child will have the opportunity to play in larger groups of children. Lavern considers these larger groups to be an important part of their social and emotional development.

Lavern's playspace at home is well-resourced and activities frequently involve lots of role play, construction, music and craft.
