Our belief

“Raising the next generation is the most important job there is. tiney treats it like one: real training, a real professional community, and real fun!”

Meaningful work. Meaningful income.

Work that matters, and pays you properly for it; tiney childminders earn on average £40k+. What you earn depends on your rates, hours, and how many children you care for. tiney only earns when you do.

Alicia Wilkins

Former Teacher

“I didn’t start this with a business mindset…tiney took care of the hard stuff, which is great for someone who's never been self-employed before.”

Build a better world with us

We won’t accept a world where raising children is treated as unskilled, unimportant, work. Where seeking meaningful work, means giving up on a meaningful income. Or where the joy of growing a family, comes with the challenge of compromise.

At tiney, we’re building something better: creating a world where everyone in the family can thrive.

A diverse group of tiney childminders

The only national community of its kind in the country.

You’re building your own business, and you’re not doing it on your own. tiney is a community of over 1,300 childminders and trainees across England, who meet, train and back each other. It shows up in person, too, at our Community Days.

Community at the centre

A people-powered movement.

Once a year, hundreds of tiney childminders get together at our Community Day. Come and see the faces behind it.

Common questions about becoming a childminder

How do I become a childminder with tiney?

You start with a call, complete your training in the tiney app, then pass a video assessment and a home visit before you register. We guide you through every step, including your DBS and other checks. See what childminding involves.

How much does it cost to join tiney?

There’s a one-off joining fee for your training and registration, which you can pay upfront or split into two, plus a few third-party costs like your DBS check and first aid. After that, tiney’s membership fee is a percentage of what you earn. See the full breakdown on our pricing page.

Do I need childcare experience or qualifications?

Not to start. If you’re new to early years, our Complete pathway takes you through everything from scratch. If you’re already a qualified practitioner, there’s a faster Experienced pathway.

Can I childmind from a rented home?

Yes. Over half of tiney homes are run from rented properties. You’ll just need written permission from your landlord, or from the council if it’s a council-owned flat.

Can I look after my own children while I work?

Yes, and for many childminders it’s one of the biggest draws. Your own children can be with you while you work, though they count within the number of children you’re allowed to care for.

How long does it take to get registered?

It depends on your pathway and how quickly your checks clear. Most people new to childminding register within two to four months, and it can be faster if you’re already a qualified practitioner.

Is tiney a good alternative to registering with Ofsted directly?

Yes. tiney is an Ofsted-registered Childminder Agency, so you register with tiney rather than Ofsted, and we handle the admin, training, insurance and ongoing support. Going direct through Ofsted gets you registration and an inspection every few years; with tiney the support starts sooner and doesn’t stop. Already registered with Ofsted?

How does tiney make money?

We charge a membership fee: a percentage of what you earn. It’s 12% of your childcare income to start, dropping to 9% once you’ve earned £50,000 with tiney, where it stays for life. We only earn when you do.
