About our tiney childminder

With over 23 years experience working with children, young people and families I have a world of experience to share with new children in my setting. Having worked in the nursery industry looking after 0-5years and working towards the EYFS, I know that residential homes provide a better start for children in their learning and development. Through my tiney home I wish to create loving community of happy and healthy children who share common experiences through education and play.

Unique highlights

🧼Love of messy play🧼

Messy play, or sensory play, is the term for any activities allowing children to work with their hands to create a controlled mess. Often involving traditionally messy ingredients such as paint, sand, slime, water, clay or mud, it is geared toward exploring feelings and imagination. The idea is to use different materials to explore various textures, getting used to different sensations using their hands and fingers or even toes and feet! Some children will be sensitive to different sensations, and messy play is a great way to ease them into new experiences without overwhelming them.

🌞Outdoor adventures🌞

When in my setting I want the children to be physically healthy, well-rounded, independent and compassionate individuals and I believe one of the best ways to instill these qualities in them is to inspire them to spend more time outside. Encouraging children to spend more time in the outdoors and away from technology aids their physical well-being, and helps them improve their emotional and intellectual health, too. Whether it’s a trip to a park or taking a hike through the woods, there’s no denying the benefits of stepping away from the screen and into the sunshine is beneficial to every age.

🎨Getting creative🎨

Here are a few ideas I have when we get creative🖼 Make sock puppets. Glue on old buttons for the eyes or draw on some whiskers. Then make a theatre out of an old cardboard box and host our own puppet show. Get painting using brushes, stencils or your fingers to make pictures. Or try face painting. Playing with playdough is one way to develop motor skills. Pick a theme each week and base our activities around that. Such as ‘dinosaurs’, ‘under the sea’ or ‘people who help us’. Following the children's interests. Make cards for friends and family to celebrate events like summer or a birthday. Create a collage from old newspapers and magazines. Using scissors under supervision helps with their motor skills. Make a ‘touchy-feely’ box with different textured items from around the house.

In this neighbourhood

I live just off Kingsway in Rochdale. I am close to 2 sure start childrens centres, I am in walking distance of a handful of lovely parks such as Milnrow Park. I regularly visit Gordon Riggs Garden Centre and Balderstone library for story time. I have a 7 seater car so we will be venturing out on fun activities and days out such as Chester or Blackpool zoo, Smithills or Lancaster Farms, a number of play centres and the beautiful countryside closeby to Hollingworth lake and Whitworth reservoir.

What others are saying about this home...

Julieanne Ryan

I had the privilege to work with Jenny within the nursery setting I managed. Jenny visited our nursery to deliver play sessions and activities as part of her role as a support worker for the local council, the children and staff always enjoyed their sessions, Jenny was organised, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and great fun. She adapted to any situation without hesitation and always provided the staff with the tools to continue with the activities and develop the children’s skills. Jenny is a natural with children.

Kim Coley

Jenny looked after my little girl at a nursery when I returned to work, my daughter found being left difficult but Jenny always made the transition a gentle one for her, she was so loving and caring and I always knew I was leaving her in the right hands and she would be happy. Jenny even had time for me when I found the leaving difficult. I highly recommend Jenny.

Sarah Bashforth

I had the pleasure of working with Jenny in a children's home and she showed nothing but love and care for the children. Even when some of the children's behaviour was challenging she was always able to remain professional and compassionate towards their wants and needs. Jenny was always able to show a great understanding of child development and extremely reliable.

Veronica Reddan

Jenny looked after my son when he was 10 months old. He had started to have seizures and I found it really difficult to leave him but I knew he was going to love it in her care. I felt safe leaving him in her capable hands. Jenny has continued to look after him intermittently and there’s no one my child would feel safer with. Her home is made for kids, fun and is always full of laughter. My child will be returning to Jenny and her family in January. I will be able to work with peace of mind that he is safe and well cared for.

Deborah Algar

Having been Jennifer's Employer for a time,I was blown away by the kindness & support she always showed to all the customers, especially any children...Jen never hesitated to join in entertaining all the children...Jen is just a wonderful Mother, Friend and human being...
